Our History

Incarnation Lutheran Church was chartered January 2, 1921, as a mission church for the many Lutherans in the Shandon neighborhood who traveled downtown to church. The original wooden church building was located on the current site, facing Sims Street. This building was used for many years, even after the current sanctuary, the second stone church on the site, was completed on January 3, 1960.

Incarnation is a member of the South Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Our current senior pastor is the Reverend Dr. Mary W. Anderson, and our Associate Pastor and Cantor is the Rev. Jim Parham . The church is in the initial stages of a building campaign for the entire block on which we sit, a plan we call Vision 2021. By our 100th anniversary in the year 2021, we will have built a new fellowship hall, added on to our sanctuary and education buildings, built a new administration building and renovated the interior of the sanctuary.
